Hi
This weekend, something happened that really stuck with me and I wanted to share it with you. While I was at the gym doing my training, a woman I hadn’t seen before approached me. I believe she was a new member, there with her husband. Out of the blue, she came up to me and said, “You have an amazing figure.”
I was touched. In fact, I had noticed her too -
her fantastic leggings had caught my eye and after she complimented me, I made sure to tell her how great I thought they looked.
Now, in the past, I know how I would have responded. I probably would have said something like, “Oh, thanks, but I’m actually over a stone heavier than I want to be” or found some other way to put myself down. But this time, I didn’t. I simply smiled and said, “Thank you.”
It got me thinking about how often we, as women, struggle
to see ourselves as others do. We’re so quick to focus on what we perceive as flaws, yet others can see our strength, our beauty and the amazing things we’re capable of.
This lovely woman didn’t know me, yet she took the time to offer a heartfelt compliment. She had no reason to say it other than that she genuinely meant it. And that small moment made my day.
I remember a time years ago when I was feeling particularly low in myself. I was in a changing room
trying on clothes, feeling frustrated that nothing seemed to look right. I was about to give up when a woman in the next cubicle said, “That colour looks gorgeous on you!” I can’t tell you how much that simple comment lifted my spirits. It reminded me that while I was caught up in self-doubt, someone else had noticed something positive and beautiful in me.
I always try to give compliments too because there’s something powerful about women supporting women, lifting each other
up instead of comparing or competing. Imagine what we could all achieve if we spent more time building each other up!
So, my challenge to you this week is this: If you see another woman doing something awesome, looking amazing, or showing strength in some way - tell her. Your words might just make her day, just like that woman’s words did for me.
Let’s celebrate each other. We all deserve to feel seen, appreciated, and
empowered.
Love
