Hi
We can make an excuse… or we can find a way.
It’s not easy - especially this time of year. The chaos of the holidays, family responsibilities and the demands of work can leave you feeling pulled in a hundred directions. The truth is, your excuses are valid. Many women over 40 are juggling not only their own lives but also caring for children, grandchildren,
aging parents and more. It’s no wonder you feel like there’s no time left for yourself.
But here’s the thing: you have the opportunity to make a choice.
Yes, an opportunity. Even in the midst of your busiest season, you have a chance to DECIDE your direction. Will you move toward your goals, or will you put yourself last once again - only to feel like you're starting over when the New Year rolls around?
It’s easy to let
life’s challenges, setbacks and never-ending demands work against you. But you also have the chance to seize this moment to show yourself just how strong and capable you are.
Why These Days Matter Most
It’s not the easy days that count. It’s the hard ones - the ones where no one would blame you for giving up. These are the moments that define your progress. When you push through the challenges and do what you know you need to -
especially when you don’t want to - you’re building resilience and setting yourself up for success.
If you’ve been struggling to stay consistent, if you’ve found yourself waiting for the New Year to reset, STOP. Take control now. You can absolutely do this and you DESERVE the success you’ll achieve by pushing through the hard.
How to Prioritise YOU in the Midst of Chaos
Let’s be real: your schedule is packed.
Between caring for others and managing your responsibilities, it’s easy to put yourself last. But you can’t pour from an empty cup. Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish - it’s necessary.
Here’s how to make it happen:
1. Schedule Your Workouts Like Appointments
Block off time in your calendar just like you would for a doctor’s appointment or a work meeting. Even 15 - 30 minutes a day can make a difference. You’re more likely to
stick to it when it’s a non-negotiable part of your day.
2. Incorporate Movement Into Your Day
If finding a solid block of time feels impossible, try fitting in movement throughout the day:
- Do bodyweight exercises (like squats or lunges) while waiting for dinner to cook.
- Take 10-minute power walks while the kids are at practice or during a quick break from work.
- Stretch or do Pilates or yoga before bed to unwind and
recharge.
3. Get Creative with Family Time
Turn time with your kids or grandkids into active bonding:
- Go for a walk together.
- Have a dance party in the living room.
- Play a game outside that gets everyone moving.
4. Ask for Help
You don’t have to do it all. Delegate tasks where you can - whether it’s asking older kids to help with chores, splitting responsibilities with a
partner, or hiring support for errands or caregiving. Freeing up even a little time can make a big difference.
5. Make it About You
Set aside at least one moment in your day for something you love. Whether it’s listening to your favourite podcast during a walk, practicing mindfulness, or simply savouring a quiet cup of tea, these small acts of self-care remind you that YOU matter.
The Power of “Because I Don’t Want
To”
Here’s a truth that’s hard to hear: often, the best reason to push through is precisely because you don’t want to. Those moments when you’re ready to quit? That’s where growth happens.
The next time you’re tempted to skip your workout or let your goals slide, remind yourself of this:
- You are strong.
- You are capable.
- You are worthy of the time and effort it takes to prioritise your health.
Say
it with me: You are worth every ounce of energy you invest in yourself, and you DESERVE the success you’re going to see by pushing through the hard.
Moving Forward
Remember, it’s not about being perfect. It’s about showing up - day after day, even when it’s hard. By choosing yourself and your health, you’re not just improving your fitness. You’re setting an example for your loved ones, proving that strength and self-care are
non-negotiable at any stage of life.
This holiday season, give yourself the gift of showing up for YOU. Start now, push through and step into the New Year stronger, healthier and more empowered than ever.
You’ve got this.
