Hi
This is something I believe: "The more you know, the more you realise how little you actually know." As women over 40, we often carry the wisdom that comes from years of experience. We've accumulated knowledge, learned countless lessons and developed a deep understanding of what works for us. Yet, sometimes this very "knowing" can become a barrier to
growth.
How many times have we thought, "I already know what to do," only to find ourselves feeling stuck, frustrated, or unable to make progress in our health, fitness, or overall well-being? The truth is, knowing isn't the same as doing. And sometimes, our knowledge can prevent us from seeing the new opportunities and improvements that lie ahead.
The Illusion of Knowing
We all know how to eat healthily, stay active and
prioritise self-care. But if we're honest, how often do we find ourselves stuck in the same routines, thinking we've mastered the basics, only to realise that our progress has plateaued?
The problem is that we can use "knowing" as a defence mechanism against change. We might think, "I've heard this all before," and dismiss advice or guidance that could actually make a significant difference. Real growth, however, requires humility. It requires us to set aside our ego, embrace
feedback and remain open to learning, even when we believe we already have all the answers.
The Basics Are Your Foundation
It's easy to get caught up in the latest trends and fads, especially when it comes to fitness and health. But at the end of the day, it all comes back to the basics. Whether it’s proper nutrition, consistent exercise, or mindfulness, these are the cornerstones of a healthy lifestyle.
We often overlook
these fundamentals, thinking we're beyond them. We want something new, something exciting that promises quick results. But the truth is, you're never above the basics. Mastery comes from practicing and refining these core principles, not just once, but over and over again. As Bruce Lee wisely said, "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times."
Embrace the Learner's
Mindset
So, what does this mean for us, especially as women in our 40s and beyond? It means adopting a learner’s mindset. It means being willing to ask questions, seek feedback and revisit the basics without feeling like we're regressing. There’s power in embracing the idea that we don’t have all the answers, and that’s okay.
Here are a few reminders to keep you on track:
- Stay Curious and Open-Minded: Don’t be afraid to ask
questions or explore new perspectives, even on topics you think you know well. The more curious you are, the more you'll uncover.
- Value Feedback: Feedback isn't criticism; it's a tool for growth. Embrace it, and use it to refine your approach, whether it's in your workouts, nutrition, or self-care routines.
- Focus on Consistency, Not Perfection: The basics may seem simple, but they are powerful. Consistently practicing healthy habits will get
you further than chasing perfection.
- Challenge Your Ego: It’s easy to say, “I know this already,” but challenge yourself to dig deeper. You might discover a new layer of understanding that can transform your results.
Your Health and Fitness Journey is Lifelong
As we age, our bodies change and so do our needs. What worked for us in our 20s or 30s may not serve us in our 40s and beyond. That’s why it’s so
important to keep learning, adapting, and refining our approach to health and fitness. There’s always room for improvement, always something new to learn and always a way to be better.
So, as you move forward on your journey, remind yourself:
- It’s not about what you think you already know.
- It’s about being willing to learn, grow and embrace the basics with fresh eyes.
- It’s about practicing those basics consistently and with
intention.
Remember: Growth isn’t about proving how much you knowit - it’s about embracing how much more there is to discover.
By staying curious, open and humble, you’ll not only find the answers you’re looking for but also unlock new levels of strength, vitality, and joy.
Let’s continue to grow, learn, and thrive, one step at a time. 🌿💪
