Hi
With Halloween just behind us and the upcoming festive season - which seems to start earlier each year - it's easy to feel like each celebration throws us off course. One indulgent meal or a missed workout can make it seem like all our progress has been undone, and it’s tempting to think, “I’ll just get back on track next Monday or next
month.”
But we don’t need to wait for a “perfect” starting point. We can simply do the next best thing right now.
Maybe we enjoyed a big night out that didn’t align with our goals or missed a few workouts this week. That’s okay. Instead of feeling like we need to “start over,” we can ask, “What’s the next best thing I can do?” It might be something small - like going for a walk, preparing a healthy meal, or setting aside time for batch cooking to
stay prepared in the days ahead.
These small, positive actions keep us from falling into that familiar festive season pattern - putting things off until January 1st. It’s a learned cycle that can leave us feeling stuck, but with each small step, we break free from it.
The first step is to own what’s happening without guilt. Recognise the struggle as part of a pattern, not a permanent setback. When we start to view these behaviours as part of a
larger habit loop, we give ourselves the power to make changes - even though it isn’t always easy.
So if you’re finding it hard to stay consistent or feeling like you’ve lost control, take a pause. Think about the next best thing you can do and take action.
Remember, this season doesn’t have to derail our progress. By focusing on small, positive choices and doing the next best thing, we can keep moving forward - no matter what the festivities
throw our way. Progress isn’t about perfection; it’s about showing up for ourselves, one step at a time.
Here’s to a festive season of mindful choices and lasting habits. Let’s make this the year we break the cycle and keep building the healthy routines we deserve!
