Hi
When I went on holiday, I decided to take a more relaxed approach to my eating and exercise habits. Instead of meticulously tracking my calories, I chose to be mindful of what I ate, ensuring I enjoyed my meals without going overboard. Here's a glimpse into how I balanced indulgence with mindfulness and kept active in a way that suited my holiday
vibe.
Mindful Eating
Breakfast and Lunch: Light and Satisfying
I kept my breakfast and lunch light, opting for fresh fruits, yogurt, salads, and lean proteins. These meals were satisfying yet light enough to leave room for the bigger evening meals that were a highlight of my holiday.
Evening Meals: A Culinary Experience
Dinner
was an essential part of my holiday experience. I enjoyed the local cuisine, exploring different restaurants and savouring every bite. The setting often added to the experience, whether I was sitting by the sea or in a cozy restaurant. Taking time to eat slowly and enjoy the food was a significant part of my holiday relaxation.
Indulging in Treats
I have a soft spot for ice cream and I didn’t deprive myself of this
treat. I allowed myself to enjoy ice cream without feeling guilty but ensured I didn’t go overboard. It was all about balance - indulging in what I love while maintaining a level of moderation.
Alcohol
I don’t drink alcohol, but if it's something you enjoy, go ahead and have it. Just make sure to stay hydrated with plenty of water alongside your drinks to avoid dehydration and keep your body feeling
good.
Staying Active
Adapted Exercise Routine
I didn’t stick to my usual exercise routine, but that didn’t mean I stayed inactive. The daily walk to the beach, which was about 50 minutes each way, provided a great workout. The walk was challenging, but it was also a lovely way to enjoy the surroundings. The views were absolutely
incredible!
Different Forms of Movement
I embraced the opportunities for different types of exercise. Walking, swimming in the sea and just being generally active kept me moving. It’s important to adapt your exercise to suit your holiday environment and activities.
Reflecting on the Experience
Despite not following my usual diet and exercise routine, I didn’t
gain any weight. And even if I had, it would have been okay. Holidays are about enjoying yourself and it’s crucial to find a balance between indulgence and moderation.
Tips for Maintaining Healthy Habits on Holiday
- Choose One Indulgent Meal: Allow yourself to have one meal a day where you can enjoy whatever you want. Keep the other meals more balanced and
nutritious.
- Stay Active: Find ways to incorporate movement into your day. It could be walking, swimming, or even exploring the local area. But also remember to relax and recharge.
- Hydrate and Rest: Drink plenty of water and get enough sleep. Both are essential for maintaining your energy levels and overall well-being.
- Be Mindful: Enjoy your food and take the time to savour each meal.
Mindful eating can help you feel more satisfied and less likely to overeat.
- Listen to Your Body: Pay attention to how you feel. If you’re full, stop eating. If you’re tired, rest. Your body knows what it needs.
By being mindful and adaptable, you can enjoy your holiday without compromising your health and fitness goals. It’s all about balance and making choices that make you feel
good.
