Hi
The other day, I asked a client a simple question:
“Do you have any wins to share?”
Her response? “Not really.”
That answer immediately raised a flag for me and I knew I needed to dig deeper.
"We have just passed the halfway point of the program," I reminded her. "So it’s time to check your weight,
waist and hip measurements. No pressure, but have you done that yet?"
She paused, then said, “Yeah, I’ve lost 8 pounds so far and half an inch off my waist.”
Wait, what?! Eight pounds down and half an inch off her waist in just five weeks?!
Now, here's the kicker: her initial instinct was to say she didn’t have any wins to celebrate. Eight pounds lighter and a slimmer waist weren’t even on her radar as accomplishments worth mentioning. But
why?
This is a perfect example of the faulty thinking many of us are guilty of - downplaying our achievements because we think they’re too small to celebrate.
So, let me say this loud and clear: WE NEED TO LEARN HOW TO CELEBRATE OUR WINS!
Every single one of them.
Because here’s the thing: There are no small victories. Every step forward is significant. They all add up - whether it’s:
- Fitting
in an extra workout,
- Choosing a more nutritious meal,
- Shedding a pound,
- Setting a personal record,
- Entering a positive relationship (or leaving a toxic one).
The power in celebrating isn’t just about the momentary boost in confidence. When you acknowledge and celebrate these wins, you reinforce the behaviours that created the success in the first place. That’s how you build momentum. That’s how you keep moving forward.
How to
Celebrate Your Wins
- Write them down – Use a journal, notebook, or even your phone to track your accomplishments. Seeing them written out adds a layer of recognition that sticks.
- Share them – Whether it’s with family, friends, or (hint hint) your coach, talk about your wins. You don’t have to post them on social media, but a good old-fashioned phone call or face-to-face conversation can make all the difference.
- Soak it in –
Let the feeling of achievement sink in. Your brain will crave more success once it knows how good it feels to celebrate.
Whatever form it takes, celebrating your wins is about keeping the fire alive and building on the success you’ve already created.
Remember: There are no little victories. Each one is a building block to an even greater accomplishment.
So, what will you celebrate today?
