Did you know that Blue Monday is supposedly the saddest and most depressing day of the year, falling on the third Monday of January?
This concept was concluded following a mix of bad weather, longer winter nights and the aftermath of the festive period. But scientists have fully discredited this theory.
The day was initially introduced in 2005 as a promotional tool to encourage people to book holidays. See how far we've come!
Nonetheless this year, Blue Monday falls on the 16th January, this Monday and by this date lots of us will have given up on our New Year's resolutions.
In a way, I think it's a good thing. I believe we tend to overestimate what we can achieve in a year and never plan well enough to achieve our goals.
Instead this year, I would encourage you to go after one change, just one
single change in your diet or lifestyle, and commit to doing it consistently until the end of the year. Then see what you've achieved when comes to December.
You would be surprised what one single small step towards the right direction can achieve. From experience, here are some ideas that will make a substantial difference, leaving you stronger both physically and mentally:
- drink 1.5 - 2 litres of water per day
- stop drinking alcohol or coffee or pop
- start the day with a large glass of water (room temperature)
- walk for 20 - 30 minutes

- stop blue lights (phones, tablets, computer, TV) 2 hours before going to bed
